PMH operating at maximum capacity

The Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) is operating at maximum capacity as a result
of non-Covid19 patients  accessing care at the hospital. The public is advised that
PMH will continue to provide care to both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients as
the hospital’s leadership and clinical staff have taken every possible step to mitigate
the impact of the increase of COVID-19 cases.
The PMH Family Medicine Clinic at Agape House will offer limited services as nursing
staff will be redeployed to the Princess Margaret Hospital. Only physicians will
remain deployed at Agape Clinic. All scheduled clinic appointments will be
honoured.
PMH anticipates an increase in bed capacity of twenty-three (23) beds within the
next twenty-four (24) hours.
Non-COVID hospital operations, resources, and services have been adjusted. Faceto-face outpatient services, including elective surgeries and specialty clinics, are
limited. Public/visitor access to our public hospitals remains limited to ensure the
safety of patients and staff and to minimize further transmission of COVID.
As a result of decreased bed capacity, forty (40) patients at the hospital’s
Emergency Department are awaiting admission. The Emergency Department is
restricted to emergency cases only including major accidents, strokes, and heart
attacks, trauma with major bleeding, loss of consciousness, and difficulty breathing.
The Authority requests that the public extend patience at this time as the Princess
Margaret Hospital is doing everything possible to manage the impact of the increase
in COVID-19 infections.
We anticipate the ongoing renovations to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) area
and other critical spaces will provide the much-needed relief to hospital wait times
and overall hospital capacity. The PHA seeks the public’s support in our efforts to
provide quality care and address critical challenges in the immediate future.
The public is encouraged to follow all advisories and updates from the Ministry of
Health & Wellness and the Public Hospitals Authority for further information regarding
hospital services.
