URCA to host Pop-Up Meetings on Grand Bahama

New Providence, Bahamas – In keeping with its mandate as the independent regulator of key economic sectors in The Bahamas, namely the electronic communications and electricity sectors, the Utilities Regulation & Competition Authority (URCA) is committed to providing service throughout The Bahamas. This week, URCA will continue its series of Pop-Up offices on the island of Grand Bahama, 2nd to 5th December. Chief Executive Officer Stephen Bereaux said, “We must ensure that residents throughout the country feel connected to URCA and understand our role particularly as it relates to bringing relief to our chief stakeholders, consumers”. “It is our goal to bring the “URCA office” to all of the key population centers in the country and to eventually have a permanent presence on the island of Grand Bahama. On December 2nd and 3rd, a team from URCA will host the second of their pop-up office meetings on Grand Bahama Island, at the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce. “In New Providence, interested persons can pick up the phone and call us without incurring any long distance charges or simply visit our physical offices,” explained URCA Corporate and Consumer Relations Manager, Mavis Johnson-Collie. “For residents in Grand Bahama and the rest of the family islands they don’t have that opportunity, and so we want to make ourselves available and easily accessible to all Bahamians’. This would also give local businesses and residential consumers the chance to speak to our team about service issues, solar needs or information on opening their own business in the fields we regulate.” Back after their successful town hall meetings held in May this year, the one on one consultations will be held at the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce 9 am to 12 noon on Monday both days. “Prior to Hurricane Dorian, URCA had planned to combine these pop-up meetings with a series of civic organization events, to give residents on Grand Bahama the opportunity to take full advantage of all the services offered by URCA,” Johnson-Collie said. “As the recovery efforts continue on the island, we hope that the resources we are able to provide for local businesses can be of assistance to the island moving forward.” For more information, residents can visit URCA’s social media pages or URCA’S website. “We want to hear from everyone, we are the regulators for all the islands and we are coming to you so you can be heard.”
